Healthier lifestyle

So I have been trying to eat healthier the past few weeks and I have been exercising. Exercise is a word that at one point did not exist in my vocabulary... Unless it was followed by 'is evil' or started with 'I don't'. Once I arrived in Australia it started to hit me that my body was changing in a way I did not like.... So I wanted to make some changes.

Growing up I was very active, being a bit of a tomboy I played a lot of football and did a lot of sport. Being a child as well I was always running around like a fruit loop using lots of energy. I ran around a lot and also ate a lot... I think at the age of 5 the 'Olympic breakfast' at little chef was no more than a snack for me haha. I munched that down no troubles.

As I got older my attitude towards running around and being active changed... However my attitude to wanting to eat all the time did not.... Because food is just delightful, and makes me happy like it does for many people.

I have always had a very fast metabolism so eating a vast amount of food never showed.... Until now. Dun dun durrrr.
Although I am not over weight, I am not fat... Just an average size girl who is curvy. However I am noticing that weight is sneaking up on me a lot more now... So I decided to make changes. As I would much rather exercise a lot more than give up my food. I joined the gym.

I got myself a personal trainer, and started going gym 3-4 times a week. Obviously I don't manage that every week as I can be a lazy sod. All that aside my personal trainer is a lovely girl who has got me some brilliant results and have really appreciated having her help me.... If it wasn't for her I would have given up by now and just not bothered but I find that if I have someone every week who I have to show my food diary too and someone who is weighing me you feel like you need to prove yourself to more people, otherwise you end up making excuses every week to someone other than yourself as to why you haven't been good.

I know having a personal trainer isn't in everyone's budget... Or even paying for the gym, I am just lucky at the minute that I can just about afford it. So if that's not an option for you, having some one to exercise with can help motivate you. This way you can help each other out and encourage each other not to let the food demon out.

Exercise for me though is the easier part... Food is my weakness. I love my food, it makes me happy. It's a comfort thing for me as it is with a lot of people.
So when it comes to cutting out naughty foods, take it slow. What is your weakness? For me it's carbs and chocolate (not together obviously) so I started by reducing the amount of naughty carbs I ate. Replacing white bread with brown bread, replacing potatoes with sweet potatoes... Things like that :) (I tried replacing white pasta with brown... But jheeze that stuff tastes crap). Then it was the chocolate. I stopped buying it and avoided having it in the house, and asked if everyone else in my house could do the same (this was not easy to persuade). Then I moved on to my portion sizes as I can eat a lot in one go.... Then gradually your diet becomes a little more clean and healthy, as you slowly break in new habits :)

It does get easier as well, I find I am not as hungry anymore and can't eat nearly as much as I used to. Your stomach adjusts to its new diet and so will you :)

I am feeling a lot more energetic and fitter. The results are also starting to show physically as well which really encourages me more :)

I hope this helped you, if you are looking for a slightly healthier lifestyle :)

What will you change?
